Vinny Spotleson’s Stance on Education

Recent efforts to fund education seek to improve a wide variety of issues facing Nevada’s K-12 system. However, these efforts came at a price and we now face millions of dollars of our tax money being unfairly diverted from struggling public schools to private schools. More than 96% of all Clark County schools still exceed recommended classroom size limits.*

In order to improve public education in our state, I am committed to:

• Building more schools to reduce classrooms sizes to under 35 students, creating construction jobs in the process
• Raising the amount of money we have for school supplies, which is only $250 for a teacher for the entire school year. **
• Eliminate subsidies for private schools (currently set at $5,000 per student).

Additionally, it is critical that we stop making those higher education budget cuts that hurt Nevada’s competitiveness and hold back our students. We must increase higher education funding for professors, support staff and facilities.

I will also work to increase funding for adult education and workforce development to help people build marketable skills and find new careers.
